Local Lifestyle

Hell’s Kitchen is generally considered more grounded than other neighborhoods, due to its working class roots. The streets are lined with an array of restaurants and bars, indicative of the buzzing nightlife in the area. There’s a welcoming community in the area, more than willing to embrace new residents and offer restaurant recommendations, making it easy for people to settle in and feel as if they’ve lived there forever.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Enjoy the international cuisine that is abundant in Hell’s Kitchen. Le Bernadin offers fresh seafood cooked with unique French flavors while La Grande Boucherie serves more traditional French recipes. The Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare encourages you try French-Japanese fusion or go South American for dinner at Churrascaria Plataforma, a Brazilian steakhouse cooking picanha steaks, lamb chops, and chicken. Finish with a dessert from Carlo’s Bakery, run by TLC star Buddy Valastro.

Hell’s Kitchen is home to one of the most iconic bars in history, the Copacabana, inspiration for Barry Manilow’s song and an experience no one should miss. At Birdland Jazz, enjoy a live jazz performance while you sip on a cocktail or beer. In the Aliz Hotel, Dear Irving takes up the top two floors, providing a beautiful view alongside seasonal cocktails. The bar even offers cocktail classes if you want to work on your bartending skills. Hell’s Kitchen is also known for their plentiful gay bars, such as Industry or Hardware.

Things to Do

Due to its proximity to Rockefeller Center and Broadway, just 10 minutes away, it’s no surprise that Hell’s Kitchen is home to a number of off-Broadway theaters, such as the Manhattan Theatre Club where numerous shows have premiered or Playwrights Horizons, where the work of modern writers is featured. For a taste of life on television, stop by CBS Studio, where you can take tours or try and snag a seat in the audience of one of the shows.

Explore artistic visual mediums at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit dedicated to helping artists get their start, or at the New York Museum of Contemporary Art. Pick up a beautiful painting for your own home at the NY Art Factory.

Get some outside time at DeWitt-Clinton Park, fully developed with a dog run, playground, sports fields, and a garden featuring flowers popular in the 1800s. Hudson River Park also runs through Hell’s Kitchen, and includes plenty of spaces where you can sit and relax while overlooking the water.
